Curry Plant / Italian Everlasting
Botanical Name: Helichrysum italicum
Family: Asteraceae
Origin: Mediterranean (southern Europe, north Africa)
Plant Type: Evergreen subshrub / aromatic herb
Overview
Helichrysum italicum is a compact, silver-foliaged aromatic subshrub with a distinctive curry-like fragrance when brushed. Its intensely silver-grey needle leaves and bright yellow button flowers in summer make it as ornamental as it is aromatic. Thriving in hot, dry conditions with excellent drainage, it's perfectly adapted to SA's Mediterranean climate and works beautifully as a border plant, textural contrast and in herb or sensory gardens.
