Family: Asphodelaceae
Origin: Hybrid cultivar (parents from southern Africa)
Plant Type: Evergreen succulent (clumping rosette)
Overview
A compact, architectural aloe with clean blue-green foliage and prolific orange flowers in the cool season (winter–spring). Forms a tight, dense clump, perfect for modern borders, mass planting and pots in SA. Drought-tough, heat and coastal tolerant once established.

- Growth Rate: 10-20 cm per year rosette expansion
- Foliage: Smooth, spineless blue/green leaves; neat clumping habit.
- Flowers: Vivid orange heads, mainly winter–spring (bird-attracting)
- Seasonal Interest: Winter–spring bloom; year-round sculptural foliage
- Wildlife Value: Nectar for bees and honeyeaters
- Tolerance: Drought-tolerant, heat & wind tolerant, light frost, second-line coastal
- Planting Density: Mass/border: 4–6 plants/m² or 2–3 per linear metre for a continuous band

Where It Works Best
- Sunlight: Full sun to part shade
- Soil: Free-draining sandy/loam or raised/mounded beds; excellent in large containers
- Water Needs: Establishment: water regularly for 8–13 weeks. Established: deep soak every 3–4 weeks in summer; little in winter
- Maintenance: Remove spent stems and offshoots (pups) as needed; low fertiliser
- Lifespan: 10–20+ years in well-drained sites
- Climate Zones: Temperate & Mediterranean SA; sheltered coastal sites
- Soil pH: Neutral (tolerant of slightly acidic–slightly alkaline)
Landscape & Design Ideas
- Feature clumps near entries and pool areas
- Mass plant for a bold, low-water band
- Containers for patios/courtyards
- Great contrast with grasses and grey natives (not a privacy hedge)
