Liriope ‘Isabella’ / Dwarf Lilyturf
Botanical Name: Liriope muscari ‘Isabella’
Family: Asparagaceae
Origin: East Asia
Plant Type: Strappy, grass-like perennial groundcover
Overview
‘Isabella’ is a fine-textured, dwarf liriope ideal for Adelaide’s hot, dry summers and shade-challenged garden spaces. Forming tight, low mounds of narrow, deep-green foliage, it excels as a no-fuss groundcover, lawn alternative, path edging or filler between stepping stones. Its compact habit remains neat year-round, and in summer it produces delicate soft-lavender flower spikes held just above the foliage. Extremely tough once established, it handles heat, dry periods, shade and even coastal conditions common across South Australia. The foliage may take on subtle bronze tones in winter or under stress, and although not fragrant, flowers have a light, fresh scent when closely inspected.
